An eye for eye only makes the whole world blind.

Tsukiji Fish Market

Just last week I went to Tsukiji Fish Market. Here’s a picture of the entrance.

Tsukiji Fish Market is the largest wholesale fish market in the world and is located in Tokyo, Japan. Tsujiki is actually not a tourist attraction. But for some reason tourists, like myself hehe, make a note to visit.

One of Tsukiji’s most important businesses is their Tuna Auction. Tourist love coming to see the hectic auction take place around 5:00 AM in the morning. But this auction has been recently closed to tourists because they would interfere and slow down the auction by taking pictures and touching the merchandise. One of those Tunas can cost 100,000 yen or about $1000.

So if you are thinking about traveling to Japan you definitely want to visit Tsukiji but be careful and look both ways when crossing.

From 5:00 AM to 9:00 AM is the best time to go to Tsukiji. It is the busiest during that time because the important business is going on. After that, the excitement dies down pretty quick.

So that I could catch the first train I left my house at 4:15 AM. Early isn’t it. But when I got there the Tuna Auction was already finished. Doesn’t matter I would not have been able to get in there anyway. Many people where surprised to see me walking around by myself. But like I said, be careful and don’t get in people’s way. Or you’ll run into a guy like this. I would have knocked him out anyway.

To tell you the truth, there are benefits to having a above normal size camera. People think that you are some sort of professional. Some even ask you to take their picture even though they will never get a copy, only see it on the camera’s preview screen. Kind of like this guy.

Tsukiji has a vast selection of seafood. From Cuttlefish, Octopus, Crab, etc. Here are a few pictures.

Surround Tsukiji are various stores and mini restaurants where you can buy souvenirs and eat the freshest seafood in Tokyo. The picture below is what I had for breakfast. Sometimes I just want to take the long trip to just for the food. I don’t have to tell you that this fried shrimp and rice tasted great.

Just like I expected, Tsukiji was fascinating. I have never been anywhere like it before and now understand why it is often mention in the travel brochures. If you want to see more pictures. Click the link.

See you.
